My studio has a shelf full of guitar books. Over the years I have collected information on many different styles, including: Rock, Blues, Classical, Ragtime, Jazz, Folk, Celtic, New Age and Country, just to name a few. I also have the entire collection of Mel Bay’s Guitar Lesson Method, The Beatles Complete Scores, several issues of Guitar Player, Fingerstyle and Acoustic Guitar magazines, plus various books on chords, scales and music theory.
As a teacher, I often look through my guitar books to find different ideas to share with my students. As a guitarist, I am constantly reminded of how much there still is to learn! I only wish there was enough time to read through all the guitar books in my library. But at least these resources are close at hand when I need to use them.
Whatever your particular level or style of interest may be, there is certainly a guitar book just for you. For example, as a beginner you might be interested in:
This package includes:
- The Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1 with CD
- A songbook of Easy Pop Melodies with CD
- The Incredible Chord Finder book
- Plus a video explaining Basic Guitar and String Set Up.
The Incredible Chord Finder is an excellent book, in and of itself. It contains over 1,000 guitar chords, which makes it a good reference book for any guitar player to have. And you don’t need to purchase the Guitar Starter Kit. If you want it, you can get it separately.
Keep in mind that in order to become a good guitarist you will need to develop four basic areas:
- Coordination
- Knowledge
- Application
- Skill
Thankfully, there are many resources available to help you in the form of guitar books, CDs, DVDs, online lessons and private instruction. So, try to take advantage of as many of these resources as you can. After-all, having a commitment to continuing education is the key to your success!
Until next time…
Keep practicing!
